Free tier is great

I needed to deploy a static site for a personal project and Netlify's free tier was a lifesaver. I got custom domains and Managed SSL without paying a dime. It felt like a really good deal and saved me some cash that I'd rather put towards other dev tools. Very happy with the value.

Consistently reliable hosting

I've been using Netlify for various projects over a couple of years now. This latest deployment, a SvelteKit app, was just as smooth as always. I appreciate the consistency; I know what to expect. The Branch Deploys feature continues to be invaluable for testing new features before merging. It's why I keep coming back, really. They just make web deployments simple and reliable.

Smooth deployment process

My first time using Netlify was for a Next.js project. The integration with GitHub was seamless, and setting up automatic deployments for every push to `main` was super easy. I also used Netlify Forms for a contact section, and that just worked out of the box after a small config. I had a quick question about environment variables and their support docs were helpful enough that I didn't need to open a ticket. The site went live fast, and performance has been solid on their Global CDN. No complaints there.

Good for simple projects

I used Netlify to host a small portfolio site. The setup was pretty straightforward with GitHub integration, and the Deploy Previews are a nice touch for client feedback. Everything worked fine, but I did find the documentation for custom headers a little less clear than I'd hoped, took a bit of digging to get it right. Still, a solid platform for basic needs.

Hey, anyone know if Netlify offers anything for students? Trying to get my portfolio site up.

S Sofia C. 3 days ago
Yeah, they totally do. I got some credits when I signed up with my .edu email. Look around their site for it, I think it's under 'pricing' or 'education'.

Pretty sure they have a student program. It gives you some extra build minutes and bandwidth which is super helpful when you're just starting out.

Is Netlify better than Vercel for a Next.js app? Can't decide which one to go with.

A Anthony F. 4 weeks ago
Honestly, for Next.js, Vercel is often cited as being more optimized since they built it. But Netlify has really good support for Next.js too now, with their runtime.

C Chloe Gomez 3 weeks ago
It's a tough call, both are great. Netlify has a lot of other features outside of just framework support, like forms and identity, which might sway you depending on your project needs. For pure Next.js hosting, Vercel is a strong contender.

I got a promo code from a conference. Where do you even put those in Netlify?

J Julia Martinez 1 month ago
You usually enter those in the billing section of your team dashboard. They give you credits instead of a direct discount.

Go to your team settings, then find the billing tab. There should be a spot for promo codes or applying credits there. It adds credits to your account.

What kind of payment methods do they take? Just credit cards or PayPal too?

R Rachel R. 1 week ago
I've only ever used a credit card. Don't remember seeing PayPal but I might be wrong.

A Ashley Martinez 5 days ago
Pretty sure it's mostly credit cards for standard plans. For enterprise stuff, they probably have more options, but for regular users, CC is the main one.

I have an old site on GitHub Pages. How much of a pain is it to migrate that over to Netlify?

S Sean Nelson 3 weeks ago
Super easy. You literally just connect your GitHub repo and it deploys automatically. Takes like 5 minutes.

J Jennifer Adams 3 weeks ago
Not a pain at all. Netlify handles a lot of the setup for you. Just connect your repo and you're pretty much done. Setting up custom domains is also straightforward.

Thinking of moving my static site over to Netlify. What's the deal with their free tier, is it actually usable for a small project or just a bait and switch?

M Mark Parker 1 week ago
The free tier is legit, man. I've had a few personal projects on it for like a year now, never paid a dime. Good for most small stuff.

Totally usable. You get plenty of bandwidth and build minutes for a basic blog or portfolio. Only run into limits if you're doing something really heavy or getting tons of traffic.

Does Netlify have a referral program? Want to recommend it to a friend and wondering if there's any perk for me.

M Michelle Harris 1 month ago
I think they do, or at least they used to. You'd get some credits for referring someone who signs up for a paid plan. Check your dashboard.

I remember seeing something about referral credits in my account settings. Worth a look, free credits are always nice.
